Can You Be Too Strong for Rugby Union

I recently attended a TSAC (Tactical Strength And Conditioning) in Las Vegas. Whilst there were many great presenters, we were fortunate to have Bill Kraemer, a full professor in the Department of Kinesiology in the Neag School of Education working in the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT since 2001.

A key point from his presentation that stood out was the benefit of Max Strength training over Sub maximal lifting. He went through the physiology at cellular level and how much more motor unit recruitment takes place in Max Strength workouts.

Bottom line, has anyone complained about being too strong? And, really if you are super strong and your sport only requires 50% or 60% of strength levels you should be at the top of your game!

Happy training.
