Touch Football Australia Training Camp Report
Over 300 of Australia’s best Touch Football players, coaches and officials recently took part in Touch Football Australia’s largest ever training camp in the lead up to the 2013 Super Trans Tasman Series in New Zealand. The camp saw Australia’s 12 national training squads across three categories – Youth (18s and 20s Boys and Girls), Open (Mens, Womens and Mixed) and Masters (Mens and Womens 30s, Senior Mixed, Mens 40s and 50s) involved in the weekend. The camp also gave Australia’s top referees the unique opportunity to train in camp as a squad and hone their skills alongside Touch Football’s top athletes. The camp saw the squads being put through their paces by their coaching staff focusing on elite skill acquisition. The camp also had a major fitness and conditioning focus with Adrian Jimenez from the Melbourne Storm providing his expert support in putting the Squads through various fitness testing protocols. All of the Squad members were then provided with individualized training programs in the lead up to the 2013 Series. Australia will be looking to continue its recent dominance against New Zealand at the Super Trans Tasman Series, currently the Trans Tasman title holders in all three categories – Youth, Open and Masters. TFA High Performance Manager, Wayne Grant says that the contingent’s efforts at the camp were great to see and that the teams are looking forward to their next challenge. “The High Performance program was very pleased with the camp run in this format which was the largest we have ever held.
